Peace on Earth

When the angels advertised Christ's birth to a bunch of shepherds watching over their sheep by night, there was no indication of war.  They were not confronted by scrambled F18s, nor were they met with the threat of an RPG attack, as would likely be the case today.  So what was with the "Peace on earth" stuff?

We generally equate war with guns, missiles, and bombs, yet God equates war with the heart.  In this sense, all men are enemies of God and all men are warlords.  At the same time we are all experts in camouflage, but not with the God who sees all.  God requires us to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and love our neighbor on par with our self.  Do you perfectly and continuously fill this bill?  Have you ever hated anyone in your heart?  The fact is, every man, woman, and child is an affront to a perfectly righteous and loving God.  The only perfection we can claim is perfection as candidates for the wrath of Almighty God.  We desperately need to be at peace with God!

The good news is that God has made peace with us through the death of His son.  The question is, have you made peace with God?  The angels were not just speaking to the shepherds, but to you and me as well when they said:  "Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

Merry Christmas!
